Sony Soloist™ Digital PC Drill Recorder is a software application for Microsoft® Windows® based personal

computers designed for use in language learning. It operates like Sony’s traditional ER-8020 Cassette Drill

Recorder but instead of analog cassette tapes, Soloist uses the PC sound card to record and playback digital

"WAV" files to and from the PC hard disk. It provides full drill recording capability – allowing students to hear

a wave file (such as a practice lesson) and record their own voice at the same time. Both can then be played

back simultaneously for comparison, and re-recording of the voice is possible.

When used with The Sony Virtuoso® LAN based Instructor Control Software or Sony Symphony®

LLC-8000A Multimedia Learning System, Soloist can provide full integration into a teacher-controlled

learning environment. The teacher can communicate and interact with the students, control the students’

· All Call – The teacher speaks to all students at once

· Group Call – The teacher speaks to all students in one selected Program Group at a time

· Pairing – Pairs of students communicate privately

· Conferencing – Groups of students communicate privately

· Monitor – The teacher listens to a student, a pair, or a conference without the students’ knowledge

· Intercom – The teacher and individual student, pair, or conference communicate without others hearing

· Modeling – The teacher selected student, pair, or conference is heard by others
